Abortion Rights

A leaked draft opinion showed the Supreme Court was leaning towards reversing Roe v Wade, and returning the issue of abortion to the States. Overturning Roe v. Wade means that millions of women in more than half of U.S. states could either lose the ability to get an abortion or see their access drastically rolled back. In some States such as Texas, a trigger law will go into effect immediately upon the reversal of Roe v Wade, making abortion a crime.

Abortion pills will be the next battleground, with several states, including South Dakota, Texas, Kentucky, Arkansas, Ohio, Tennessee and Oklahoma, moving to restrict access to abortion pills in recent months. Use of abortion pills has been rising in the U.S. since 2000 when the FDA approved it. Now more than half of U.S. abortions are now done with pills, rather than surgery. The FDA last year lifted a long-standing requirement that women pick up abortion pills in person. Mail delivery is also now allowed nationwide.
